AKP machines are made with 3 separate bases: longitudinal for grinding wheel head (two in the front for headstock and workheads). The workhead is equipped with a counterweight that moves on the slides for balancing the workpiece. The tailstock can move on the base supported by a pneumatic system(air cushion) to obtain movement sensitivity and to avoid table-rubbing wear. The grinding wheel head is swivelable. The machine is equipped with the CNC wheel dresser interfaced with a CNC control system. The dressing of the grinding wheel is done by a diamond forming roll.
The AKP2W model is designed specifically for grinding landing gears, however it includes a double wheelhead. The wheelhead includes a “B” axis with a rotation of ± 180˚.
